Sleep apnea can be caused by a person’s physical structure or medical conditions. These include obesity, large tonsils, endocrine disorders, neuromuscular disorders, heart or kidney failure, certain genetic syndromes, and premature birth.

Today marks a significant milestone in advancing hearing health care, as the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (the National Academies) release the consensus study report, Hearing Health Care for Adults: Priorities for Improving Access and Affordability (link is external).

Improving hearing health care for adults in the United States is an urgent public health problem, and contributing to solutions is a priority for the NIDCD.
